It's a straw and will work as one. It is also the least expensive of the re-usable straws available.
However, I have been reluctant to even try it. It is very thick, and a greenish colour which is a bit off-putting. The inside is rough, which makes me worry about it absorbing liquids. Although the outside is polished smooth, this smoothness stops just short of the ends of the straw.
