So, I don't know whether I have now killed everything, but I will keep it out of the fridge now and try it for a month and see whether the white flakes develop as they should if the culture is still alive.
My advice is: make a big red "DO NOT REFRIGERATE" sticker for people who are used to putting probiotics into the fridge.
