I am very prone to sinus infection and burning the incense sticks that is rolled onto bamboo sticks really smoke a lot more and affects my sinuses negatively. These sticks are one of the few incense sticks that do not have the bamboo center. The incense is rolled and the whole thing is just the incense. For that reason the stick will break more easily and you will have to be more careful when using it. I put mine in sea sand and not an incense stick holder for this reason. The scent of these sticks are fabulous and so discreet yet you can still smell it. I think because there is no bamboo center and the smell is discreet, these will not affect your sinuses as much, but having said that it still smells amazing. But I was a bit disappointed with the product. I ordered it because I thought Japanese incense didn't smoke so much. It still smoked - maybe not as much as the others, but it still did. But it still seems to smoke. I get sinus from the traditional incense sticks and cannot use them at all. These are shorter and do not have the wood in the middle. I am not sure if that is what makes the difference, but they are lovely!
